Why this safari works…. Botswana’s always been top of the list for discerning safari travellers seeking privacy and exclusivity alongside top notch game viewing. For a short visit of five or six days this itinerary squeezes in some serious wildlife opportunities, combining Chobe National Park, with its legendary herds of elephants and the Moremi Game Reserve, arguably one of the best game viewing areas of the Okavango Delta. Such excellent game viewing deserves equal comfort, and we’ve picked two top notch lodges to ensure that you stay in style.
ELEPHANTS AND BOAT SAFARIS IN CHOBE NATIONAL PARK (2 days) Fly overnight from the UK to Botswana. When you arrive in Botswana spend two nights adjusting to being in Africa at Chobe Chilwero. This rather luxurious lodge is a civilised start to your adventure, and there’s a fantastic spa if you need a massage after a long flight. Our top tip? Be sure to do a late afternoon boat safari- it’s an utterly blissful way to see the Chobe River and add some beautiful birds to the long list of big game in the park.
BIG GAME AND SERIOUS LUXURY IN THE OKAVANGO DELTA (3 DAYS)
From Kasane fly down to the Okavango Delta and spend 3 nights at the newly refurbished Chief’s Camp, now one of the finest lodges on the continent. As an added bonus, game viewing in this area is truly excellent- if you’re especially lucky you may just see some of the rhino that have been reintroduced into this area. Either way, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Then, after your big adventure, fly back to the UK or extend your trip with one of our ideas below.
Make your safari extraordinary by… Go all out and fly to sister camps Stanley’s and Baines for an elephant interaction- walking with elephants on their daily stroll for food remains one of the most magical things we’ve ever done in Africa.
When to go… Honestly, any time of year. Wildlife densities are usually at their highest towards the end of the dry season in September and October, but this can be a very hot time to travel too. As the cost of safaris in Botswana can vary so wildly, we’d seriously recommend considering the green season where prices are normally half of their high season peak.
What does it cost…? We can arrange a five-night tailor-made trip to Botswana, including international flights from the UK, domestic light aircraft flights, and three nights at Chief’s Camp and two at Chobe Chilwero from £4,904 per person in low season and from £9,603 per person during high season.
