There are two things you need to know about Angama Mara: it’s one of the most luxurious lodges in the Mara, and the views are drop-dead glorious.
What’s Angama Mara Really like?
Angama’s a relatively new arrival in the Mara, and with so many glorious lodges and camps, it really needed to be something special to stand out. Well, the Fitzgerald family have certainly succeeded in their mission, and some. The location is second to none (fans of Out of Africa may recognize Angama’s favourite picnic spot) and views from camp are spectacular. Huge floor to ceiling windows in each “tent” (and we use that word loosely) mean that you never miss a moment. Angama is divided into two camps, each with 15 tented suites, the idea being that with two separate setups, guests won’t feel overwhelmed. Tents are all large and very comfortable with ensuite bathrooms, plenty of space to sit and watch the world go by, and they have ensured that all the small, thoughtful touches are taken care of. Each camp also has two family tents making this a great option for a luxury family safari. Both camps have their own guest area with a bar and restaurant, as well as a cosy library, and a deck that almost seems to hang off the edge of the escarpment. In between the camps there is a pavilion where there’s a shared pool, the shop and a gym.
What can I do at Angama Mara?
Activities from Angama include shared morning and afternoon game drives in the Mara Reserve, and walking safaris up on the escarpment. For an extra fee you can also book onto a sunrise hot air balloon flight, visit the local community or have a massage – total bliss after a bumpy game drive or a long flight.
Giving back at Angama Mara:
For each night of your stay at Angama, a donation is made to the Angama Foundation, which works to improve education, healthcare and conservation in the surrounding area. This is put wherever the need is greatest- be it building classrooms, running a clinic or providing conservation education for local school children.
