Azura’s best known for its luxury beach lodges in Mozambique, but Azura Selous, their first foray into the world of safari brings a similar laid-back, luxurious style to the Tanzanian bush. If you like ice in your drink alongside your impalas, and big cats as well as air-conditioning, this is the safari camp for you.
What’s Azura Selous really like?
Azura Selous has twelve tented villas set on the banks of the Ruaha River either side of the main lodge. Each comes with a deeply romantic outdoor shower and a plunge pool, where you can wallow between game drives and listen to the fish eagles crying above. Décor is chic and fresh (not something we see often enough in safari camps) and you’ll be looked after from the moment you’re woken with morning coffee till you fall asleep listening to hippos grunting in the river. Food at Azura Selous is remarkable given the remoteness of your location, and the lodge can even arrange a massage to help you fully relax.
What can I do at Azura Selous?
Azura is in a remote and undeveloped area of the Selous Game Reserve which makes for a wild and utterly authentic game viewing experience. On game drives you won’t be troubled by other vehicles or a parade of tame animals waiting to have their photo taken. Instead with your highly skilled guides you’ll hunt out your own unforgettable moments, spotting the flick of a leopard’s tail on a branch, or watching a family of elephants for an hour, all to yourself. For an in-depth immersion in the bush we can’t recommend walking safaris highly enough, and when water levels permit, an afternoon boat safari is a wonderfully relaxing way to spend the day.
