The Zanzibar Serena Inn is the classic grand old lady of Stone Town. This old colonial building has a wonderfully quiet location on a garden square right beside the sea. From here it’s just a short walk into the winding alleyways and old streets of town.
The rooms are light and airy- with twin or double standard rooms on the ground floor, and similar-sized prime rooms (double beds only) with views out over the sea, as well as several suites. There’s a reasonably sized pool – the best we’ve seen in Stone Town- and helpful, friendly staff. In all, this is a pretty failsafe Stone Town hotel, and one that we’ve had consistently good feedback for over the years. There’s a good restaurant here, but one of our favourite things to do in Stone Town is to try some of the local food-with so many restaurants right on the doorstep we’d recommend going out to explore.
Feel good factor at the Serena Inn, Zanzibar:
As befits a hotel owned by the Aga Khan Foundation the Serena has a strong commitment to the local community and environment. It helps subsidise medical care and supports orphanages in the local community, provides training to school-leavers and is committed to reducing waste, conserving energy and serving local produce whenever possible.
