Relais de Mantadia is a simple, nature wrapped lodge on the edge of Andasibe – Mantadia National Park, perfect for travellers who want easy access to Madagascar’s most famous rainforest without a super high price.
What’s Relais de Mantadia really like?
The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, with staff who know the forest well and are quick to help arrange guided walks.
Its biggest USP is location: you’re minutes from the trails where indri call at dawn, from night walks alive with chameleons and mouse lemurs, and from the lush, wildlife rich forests that make Andasibe one of Madagascar’s most rewarding wildlife destinations. Set a short drive from the park entrance, it’s main hub centres around the pool, and inside the main lodge, a welcoming lounge with a fireplace for cool evenings, a bar, and a restaurant serving generous Malagasy and international dishes, often with produce sourced from the region. Accommodation is in 18 spacious bungalows dotted across the hillside, each with Queen beds, en suite bathroom, private terrace, air conditioning, Wi Fi, minibar and large windows that frame the forest. Décor is simple and natural, with warm woods, soft earthy tones and a focus on comfort rather than fuss. Some bungalows offer interconnecting rooms, making them ideal for families or friends travelling together.
Relais de Mantadia is welcoming to families, with plenty of space for children to explore and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
What can I do at Relais de Mantadia:
The pool is a favourite spot after a morning in the forest, and the lodge can arrange early dinners for younger guests. Activities focus on exploring the surrounds including guided walks in Andasibe–Mantadia National Park, night walks to spot chameleons and mouse lemurs, visits to the indri rich Analamazaotra Reserve, birdwatching and cultural visits to nearby villages. The lodge can also help arrange trips to Vakona’s lemur island.
