Where to go in Africa in January

Extraordinary Africa>The Africa Calendar>January

In January, safari-goers should head to the Serengeti in Tanzania to see the herds of the wildebeest migration, and the young zebras being born. Head to the East African beaches for gloriously warm weather, and in particular, try Mafia Island for the chance to snorkel with whale sharks…

Try Kenya to enjoy relatively empty game reserves and enjoy off-peak prices. This is a particularly good time of year to visit Amboseli National Park– glowing a glorious green and full of ellies.

In Botswana, enjoy fabulous game viewing in the Central Kalahari, as the rains provide fresh grazing for the plains game. Also, take advantage of the fact that during the green season Botswana’s prices aren’t quite so “fabulous” as they usually are…

Further south, join the barefoot jet-set to see in the New Year in Cape Town, and enjoy the glorious weather around South Africa’s Western Cape. Alternatively, head to the steamy Kwa Zulu Natal Coastline to see loggerhead and leatherback turtles laying eggs on the beach.

Enjoy fantastic deep sea fishing in Mozambique this is tuna season!
