Botswana’s Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a vast, arid wilderness, starkly beautiful and rarely visited. For those in the know however, the Central Kalahari plays host to one of Africa’s hidden secrets: the mini migration. During the green season the huge herds of wildebeest and zebra that make their annual migrations in search of food and water are truly awe-inspiring. Following close behind are mighty black-maned lions and cheetahs poised to snatch up a good meal. If you’re an intrepid soul who doesn’t mind a little rain, and a fair bit of slipping and sliding through the mud, then this is a real gem.
Outside the green season, there is often less wildlife around, however this is the traditional home of the fascinating San bushman community, and the sense of wilderness here is utterly immense.
