The safari and beach honeymoon has become a wedding classic. Alongside a beautiful bride in a gorgeous dress (who cares what colour it is?) and something fizzy to drink on the day (could be cider, could be champagne), there’s something that just works about this.

Often our honeymooners start with safari, heading straight into the adrenaline buzz, chilling out on the beach afterwards, and returning home feeling blissfully relaxed. However, if you’ve just got married, and flown through the night, there’s a reasonable chance you might be pretty shattered. So, it’s worth considering doing the beach portion of your honeymoon first, emerging thoroughly refreshed and ready to make the most of the adventure that follows. Alternatively, sandwich your safari between two stints on the beach- a short one to get over the flight, and a longer beach stay to totally bliss out afterwards. From Safari to beach in one day

For a safari and beach honeymoon Kenya and Tanzania both work particularly well, as within 24 hours you can watch sunrise in the bush, and sunset over the Indian Ocean. From most Kenyan game reserves you can also whizz down to the beach lodges on Zanzibar (part of Tanzania) for post-safari R and R.

For a cool, quirky, and off the beaten track safari and beach honeymoon, try a heart-stopping walking safari in Zambia followed by snoozing beside the turquoise waters of Lake Malawi (Our Zambia and Malawi itinerary is ridiculously perfect for this). If you feel even more intrepid, do a Malawi bush n’ beach combo.

Safari and beach further afield

If you’re prepared to do an overnight stop along the way (and don’t forget, even Nairobi has a great selection of boutique hotels these days) there are even more options. Consider a Kenyan Safari or South Africa combined with the glorious powder white beaches of the Seychelles or Mauritius, or for the ultimate in boho exclusivity, try Botswana’s Okavango Delta with the private islands in Mozambique.
