Where to go in Africa in August

Extraordinary Africa>The Africa Calendar>August

Head to Mozambique’s Indian Ocean Coastline to catch humpbacked whales migrating offshore.

South Africa’s Western Cape can be pretty chilly during August, however it’s a fantastic time for whale watching if you wrap up warm. If you’re travelling with children on a family safari, try the Eastern Cape Game Reserves or Madikwe for non-malarial options.

If your family wants a classic safari and beach trip over the summer, the safari houses across Africa are a particular favourite of ours- some of the best are in the Masai Mara in Kenya and Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.

August is prime time in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, as the flood water levels are normally at their peak, making for a glittering wonderland as a backdrop to your safari.

The dry season has always been a good time for sport fishing in Uganda, so this is a good time to try your luck for Nile Perch at Murchison Falls.
