Where to go in Africa in February

Extraordinary Africa>The Africa Calendar>February

February’s usually the time when the wildebeest migration’s in Tanzania often calving on the short grass plains of the Southern Serengeti.

Divers should head to the Kenyan or Tanzanian coast for spectacular visibility and to Mafia Island for the chance to dive with whale sharks. Plus, over on Zanzibar, each February brings the Sauti za Busara festival of African music.

Try an emerald season safari in Zambia‘s South Luangwa, to have the park to yourself: great birding, incredible value for money, and spectacular colours for photography. Read our blog post on green season safaris if you’re not sure what to expect.

We’d also tip this as a phenomenal time of year for Kenya – despite glorious weather and fantastic game viewing, the parks are oddly empty in February, making for an especially exclusive safari experience, and fantastic prices.

In Botswana, enjoy fantastic game viewing in the Central Kalahari, as the rains provide fresh grazing for the plains game.
