Where to go in Africa in December

Extraordinary Africa>The Africa Calendar>December

Travel in early December to nab some spectacular off-season bargains across Africa. Southern Africa can be wet in places, so check out Namibia (it’s a desert country so even the “rainy” season isn’t too wet if you can handle the heat), or Kenya and Tanzania where you might get the odd afternoon storm, but you’ll have the lodges, camps, and game reserves largely to yourselves.

See in New Year in Cape Town– this is one of the world’s great spots for seeing the turn of the year, so we’d recommend booking up to a year in advance. This is also a fabulous time of year to enjoy the Winelands, and the excellent golf courses and wild beaches of the Garden Route.

Christmas is a popular time of year for family safaris- check out Madikwe in South Africa for non-malarial options or some of the fabulous family run game reserves in Laikipia, Kenya, for the people really in the know.
