Southern Tanzania Safari and Beach

Why this safari works….

Relax after the flight, follow up with an unforgettable, authentic, off-the-beaten-track safari in the Selous and then some more R&R before you fly home again. This is the ideal safari and beach combination.

The Tides Pangani

RECOVERY on Tanzania’s Mainland Coast: 2-4 days Crashing out on Tanzania’s mainland coast when you first arrive in Africa is the ideal start to any safari in Tanzania. If you’ve just had a long overnight flight to Dar es Salaam, unspoilt Pangani is the perfect spot to put your feet up (or dig your toes deep into the sand). If you’re on honeymoon and recovering from weeks of work building up to the big day, even better.

Watching elephants on a walking safari from Sand Rivers Selous

ADVENTURE- Safari in the Selous Game Reserve: 3-5 days From the coast, fly south west for a magnificent safari in the Selous Game Reserve– this is the sort of place where you spot giraffes from the air before your plane even lands.  Spend your days here on game drives, walking safaris and boat safaris. Watch elephants crossing the river at sunset, track lions through the dust and listen to the cry of fish eagles overhead.

Serena Inn Zanzibar

RELAXATION on Zanzibar: 4-7 days Once the safari bug’s satisfied, fly out to Zanzibar for some R&R before you return home. Snooze beside the Indian Ocean, wander through the spice plantations and shop for treasures in the winding alleyways of Stone Town.

Other ideas for your African adventure…. Add on a few days on safari in the wonderful Ruaha National Park, extend your stay at the beach on Zanzibar to include a few days on Stone Town, or try some diving in the simple, undiscovered lodges around Mafia Island.

Make your adventure Extraordinary by… If you’re feeling seriously brave, spend a night under the stars trying out some fly camping while you’re in the Selous, or try combining a river-based camp with ultra luxury (and ultra worth-it) Beho Beho.

When to go… Any time between June and February.
