Northern Madagascar is a relatively wild and remote part of the island, combining dense tropical forests and towering limestone formations with pristine turquoise waters teeming with wildlife.
Anjajavy Private Nature Reserve is set on a peninsula in dry forest on the remote north west of Madagascar. It almost feels like the country itself in miniature. There are ancient, towering baobab trees, spiky tsingy rock formations and forests teeming with wildlife. Coquerel’s Sifakas dance across the ground, fish eagles call over the mangrove swamps, and tiny mouse lemurs scamp from tree to tree by night. Turtles come ashore to hatch their eggs, there are chameleons, geckos, snakes -we could go on. The reserve is committed to several wonderful conservation projects, including reforestation and reintroducing giant tortoises. And that’s before we get to the ever-growing list of new species that are being discovered on the reserve.
