Relais du Kirindy is a simple lodge, close to Kirindy Village and a 25 minute drive from the nearby forest. In an area where lodging options are very limited, we book this for the location on the doorstep of Kirindy Forest making access to some of western Madagascar’s most iconic wildlife very easy.
What’s Relais du Kirindy really like?
Surrounded by baobabs, birdsong and the rustle of lemurs in the canopy, Relais du Kirindy is low key and unpretentious, with a large swimming pool, a bar and an open air restaurant overlooking the gardens, serving homemade dishes with fresh produce and generous portions.
The lodge has around 20 wooden bungalows and simple en suite rooms, all with private bathrooms, terraces and fans. Please be aware that in this remote area electricity can be hit or miss, so we’d suggest having devices fully charged before you arrive, just in case. There are a mix of doubles, twins, triples, quadruples and even a Family Room that sleeps five. Interiors are practical and clean, with mozzy nets and fly screened windows, though in Kirindy bug spray is a must! As a tip from us- you are close to the village here so we’d recommend earplugs for light sleepers.
What can I do at Relais du Kirindy?
Activities focus on exploring Kirindy Forest, famous for its fossa, Verreaux’s sifakas, giant jumping rats and excellent night walks. The proximity to the forest for night walks (and a lack of alternatives without a serious leap in price) is one of the main reasons we suggest guests stay here.
