Extraordinary Africa>Rwanda>Kigali
It’s not all that often that we recommend spending time in an African city (with an honourable exception for lovely Cape Town). However, if you’re visiting Rwanda, spending at least half a day in Kigali is a must. And as you’re almost certainly arriving or leaving the country from Kigali, it’s easy to incorporate into any trip to Rwanda. Plunge deep into city life with a visit to the hairdresser, the Muslim quarter, and a cooking lesson. An important part of any visit to Kigali is a visit the Genocide Memorial. This is an elegant, graceful memorial to the tragic events of 20 years ago, and offers a moving insight into Rwanda’s past.
There are a number of decent hotels in Kigali- these are primarily luxury city hotels rather than boutique properties, but they make for a very comfortable night’s sleep before or after a long flight.
