Atmospheric, comfortable, and owner-run, lovely Hoodia Desert Lodge is one of our first choices for guests visiting the dunes at Sossusvlei.
What’s Hoodia Desert Lodge really like?
Hoodia’s setting is really rather ravishing (we say this a lot with Namibia, mainly because it’s true), tucked amongst swaying grasses at the foot of the Namib-Nakluft mountains. There’re 12 tented chalets, all with chic, earthy décor, air conditioning and outdoor bathrooms. Crucially, Hoodia also has indoor bathrooms, and while our preference is always for the romance of the open air, during the chill of the desert winter it’s nice to be indoors! If you’re visiting during the heat of the summer there’s a pool you can take a dip in, and the care and attention of owners Thomas & Henreza shines throughout the beautifully decorated main lodge. Food is good, service smiley and welcomes are warm.
What can I do at Hoodia Desert Lodge?
Most of our guests come to Hoodia Desert Lodge to visit the incredible dunes at Sossusvlei– the main gate’s around half an hour’s drive away, and the dunes another 20 minutes or so on from there. You can do this easily in your hire car, or book onto a drive with an expert guide from the lodge- please let us know if advance if you want to do this- they’re very popular! There’s some fantastic hiking in the nearby mountains, trips to Sesriem Gorge (we’d usually suggest combining this with a visit to Sossusvlei) and you can also book sundowner drives from the lodge.
