There’s something about travelling through South Africa on a luxury train that instantly transports you back to a gentler time, when life was so much more civilised. No enforced shopping experiences in airports, or undignified security procedures. Instead, simply climb into your carriage and head on your way.
There are two luxury trains in South Africa- Rovos Rail and the Blue Train. Both are lovely, and regularly ply the route between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Less often, you’ll have the chance pop down to Durban or up to Victoria Falls, follow Rovos up into Namibia, or through Southern Africa to Dar es Salaam, or join a tour incorporating some of the finest golf courses in South Africa.
