Extraordinary Africa>South Africa>Cape Town>21 Nettleton
21 Nettleton is a luxury boutique hotel in one of Cape Town’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, which feels like a private home.
What’s 21 Nettleton really like?
When you enter 21 Nettleton, it’s clear you’re in no ordinary hotel. The setting is stunning- with incredible views looking out over the Atlantic Ocean and the house towering up above. Inside the decoration is gloriously over the top, showcasing owner Hugo’s lifelong collection of art, antiques and treasures from around the world. And while the butler is very much on hand to look after you, the idea is that you should feel totally at home, so there’s an honesty bar on hand for you to help yourself.
Breakfast is served daily, there’s tapas at sunset, and while there’s no formal dinner or lunch service, of course 21 Nettleton can arrange these for you on request (if you’re not out enjoying some of Cape Town’s spectacular restaurants).
As you’d expect from this kind of private house, each room is different in décor and views. The first-floor Lion’s Head Room looks out over the nature reserve and mixes flashes of modern colour with antique décor. The King Room has an open-plan bathroom and is quite country-house feeling, looking out over the Ocean and the Twelve Apostles. The Emperor Suite is larger with a private terrace that has mountain and ocean views. The Queen Suite feels rather romantic, and again has a lovely terrace, while the vast Steinway Suite not only has a grand piano, but a private library, lounge and terrace. Lastly, the Penthouse takes over the entire top floor, with incredible views all around, two bathrooms a lounge and drawing room.
Each room has a concierge iPad. The only downside? Well, we should warn that these spectacular views come with a fair number of stairs so if you have mobility challenges we’d be happy to recommend alternatives for you.
