Lion Sands Tinga is a luxurious lodge set on the banks of the Sabie River in a private concession spanning the Kruger and Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
What’s Lion Sands Tinga really like?
On arrival guests are met with a cold drink and a warm towel to wash away the dust. You’re welcomed into the main lodge which has a high thatched roof, earthy toned décor and partially open sides. The overall feel is both airy and cosy. You can see straight out to the river, but there’s also a fireplace to curl up beside on cool winter nights. Depending on the weather you’ll either eat your meals in here or outside, be it on the deck or in Tinga’s boma.
Wandering away from the main lodge, boardwalks lead you to the nine large and comfortable suites. Decoration has the same muted colours and slightly colonial feel as the rest of the lodge. Outside each suite there’s a deck with a plunge pool for mid-afternoon wallowing, and in the bathroom there is a tub set right beside the window to make the most of the view. Tinga also has one two-bedroomed private villa which works well for a family safari. For those on a family safari, there’s the Mack & Madi children’s programme for those aged 6 or over with hands on activities to keep them entertained between safaris.
What can I do at Lion Sands Tinga?
Game viewing is of course the great draw in this part of the world, and your activities will focus on early morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles. We particularly love that Tinga limits guests to no more than 6 per vehicle so you never feel overcrowded. When you return from your morning game drive, Tinga also offers post-breakfast bush walks. You won’t see as much wildlife on foot, but it is a great way to immerse yourself a bit more in your environment. In between game drives, there’s a small spa (treatments can be paid for locally) and gym. Lastly for a really special treat, there is a treehouse where you can spend a night sleeping out under the stars- in a four-poster bed, naturally. Please just let us know if you’d like to do this as it needs to be booked in advance.

Lion Sands supports the More Community Foundation, which focuses on alleviating poverty in some of the communities around the park.
