What’s Simbavati Hilltop Lodge really like?
Wooden walkways lead you to the eight semi-tented stilted chalets – these are raised up on decks to maximise the view and have a stylish, contemporary feel. Each luxury suite is almost split into two rooms with the bedroom on one side and the bathroom on the other. We like to mention this because it does mean that you walk across a couple of metres of deck to get to the bathroom, meaning this may not be the ideal lodge for nervous travellers who need the loo in the night! Outside is the deck where there’s a day bed, a romantic outdoor shower and a plunge pool overlooking the bush. This can get a little chilly during the South African winter, but there’s also a lovely tub inside the bathroom as well! These are right next to a huge picture window so you don’t miss a moment of the view.
Probably the best view in the lodge is from the main area, where there’s a stunning pool, a bar and a cosy library that makes a nice place to retreat to when the weather turns against you. The feel here is a lovely mix of a traditional safari atmosphere, and a distinct bush feel, along with a brightly coloured contemporary style of decoration. Meals are often served outside in the boma, where you may eat communally and share stories of your day’s adventures (if you would prefer to eat alone please just let the manager know).
What can I do at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge?
The safari experience at Simbavati Hilltop focuses on game drives in the Timbavati, which is a private area open to the wider Kruger National Park, so you have all of the spectacular wildlife, but without any crowds. Game drive vehicles are usually open to maximise the game viewing experience, and three are generally up to 8 on a vehicle. While there isn’t a spa at Simbavati Hilltop, they can arrange for a therapist to come from nearby River Lodge for treatments- just let us know if you’d like us to pre-book any treatments for you.
