Gomoti Plains Camp: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Botswana>Okavango Delta and Moremi>Gomoti Plains Camp

Bordering the Gomoti River and surrounded by towering palm trees, Gomoti Plains is an eco-conscious safari lodge in the community led NG32 concession in the far south eastern end of the Okavango Delta.

What’s Gomoti Plains really like?

Gomoti has just 10 luxury tents (8 doubles and 2 tents suitable for family safaris) all built up on decks and looking towards the tributaries of the Gomoti River. Tents are all designed in the traditional safari style, but have modern comforts like flushing loos, enough electricity to charge your camera and both indoor and outdoor showers. The latter are thoroughly delightful- if we had a choice we’d build them in every safari camp. Over in the main camp there’s a comfy lounge and a dining room where wholesome food is served during jolly communal meals, though when weather permits you’ll often eat out under the stars. In the evenings a campfire and flickering paraffin lanterns are lit, and during the hot afternoons you can cool your toes in the camp swimming pool.

What can I do at Gomoti Plains?

The main activities at Gomoti are game drives in the private concession and gentler mokoro trips on the waterways in front of camp. Motor boating and walking safaris are also available- we love these as a way to get closer to nature and notice the smaller things- tiny reed frogs or fluttering dragon flies. And of course, a late afternoon gin and tonic beside the Okavango waterways is a very civilised end to a day on safari. Please note that the magic of Botswana is in the unpredictable nature of the rain and ebb and flow of the delta channels, so all activities are dependent on water levels and you do usually need to drive to deeper water channels for the motorboat safaris..

Giving back at Gomoti Plains:

The camp has been designed to minimise impact on the local environment. Most of the camp is run off solar (so be mindful that power heavy items like hairdryers and shavers can’t be used here) and the tents and decking have been built using non-permanent structures. The owners of Gomoti Plains are actively involved in local education programmes and also support local conservation efforts including anti-poaching in the NG32 concession, helping with waste management and clean up initiatives.
