Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Botswana>Okavango Delta and Moremi>Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

Sandibe Safari Lodge is, without doubt, one of the most luxurious and stylish lodges in Okavango Delta. Add to this a frankly magnificent area for game viewing, and this, at a price, is a hard safari experience to beat.

What’s Sandibe really like?

First off- Sandibe is architecturally stunning- incredibly striking and different from any other safari lodge we’ve seen, built with shingles and sweeping curves in the design of a pangolin. The 12 suites are vast and airy, each with a sitting area, private deck and plunge pool. The main areas of the lodge combine a similar blend of bush style and modern luxury with an open front, and views from up high over the flood plain, alongside a gym and private dining- both unusual finds in Botswana’s more rustic safari camps.

What can I do at Sandibe?

To say we were incredibly impressed with the game viewing around Sandibe would be a mild understatement. On our most recent visit we almost felt as if we were falling over big cats on our game drives, and were treated to hyena and wild-dog sightings too. As well as day time game drives, Sandibe also offers night drives. Game drives are all shared, but private vehicles are available for an additional fee. Also available for an extra fee are helicopter flights over the delta– these are very far from cheap, but an absolute highlight for all who try them.

Giving back at Sandibe:

As one of the newer lodges in the Okavango Delta, Sandibe has managed to hugely lower its carbon footprint- removing permanent structures, recycling some of the old lodge and using solar electricity and hot water. People are as much a part of the conservation story as the environment and Sandibe’s owners, &Beyond, are also involved in a community initiative to support a school and pre-school in Maun.
