Nyikani Central Serengeti is a charming, mid-level camp with a rather lovely location on Banagi Hill overlooking the wildlife-rich Seronera Valley of the Central Serengeti.
What’s Nyikani Camp, Central Serengeti really like?
The main mess is formed of two open fronted tents looking out over the bush- one is a cosy sitting room and bar, where we got reasonable WIFI on our last visit. A necessary evil perhaps, though we were sad to find guests looking at their phones rather than sharing stories of their safari adventures! On the other side is the dining tent, where meals are served at individual tables. We are not ones to wax lyrical about food in safari camps in Northern Tanzania. As veterans of the safari scene here, our team have too many scarring memories of greying hardboiled eggs. So it came as a delightful surprise that the food at Nyikani Central was really rather good. One tip from us- if you’re having breakfast in camp, beat your travel companions to the side of the table overlooking the plains- watching the hot air balloons float quietly in to land is a lovely experience.
Stretching away from the main area of camp, the 14 rooms trail out along the side of the hill overlooking the bush beyond. These do go some way from camp so you will be escorted during the hours of darkness. The rooms are comfortable and chalet like with stretch canvas walls, polished wooden floors and, off to the side, a small bathroom with loo and shower. In front there’s a little verandah where you could cheerfully sit with a book or binos in between game drives. One of the tents is a family tent with a double and twin room, each with their own bathroom.
What can I do at Nyikani Camp, Central Serengeti?
Most often our guests will stay here as part of a longer guided safari through Northern Tanzania, where we provide our vehicles and guides on a private basis. However, the camp also has its own game drive vehicles and can offer shared game drives to fly-in guests. Hot air balloon safaris are an optional extra from camp (these are wildly expensive, quite honestly as much as another night in camp, but utterly magical).
