The Ngorongoro Sopa, like many of the earliest hotels to open in Tanzania boasts a ravishing location high on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater with glorious views down to the crater floor. There’s no disguising the fact that with 97 rooms the Ngorongoro Sopa isn’t a small hotel, however with this scale comes fantastic value and many of the amenities that you wouldn’t always find in a safari camp: a decent swimming pool, electricity that can stand up to the demands of a hair dryer and a vast choice of food on the buffet. We found food here to be wholesome and warming, and when we stayed we were particularly struck by the friendliness of the staff- not something we’d usually expect to encounter in a hotel of this size. Most of our guests who stay here will arrive with their own driver-guide and this makes an excellent base for a night or two for your safari in the Ngorongoro Crater.
