Palm River Hotel: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Zimbabwe>Victoria Falls>Palm River Hotel

Palm River Hotel is a 4* luxury hotel on the tranquil banks of the Zambezi, a short drive from the hustle and noise Victoria Falls Town.   It has a contemporary feel, with a design that has a definite nod to Australian, as well as Zimbabwean style. The main hotel building is set amongst expansive gardens, with glimpses of the river at the end of the lawns.  Outside there’s a lovely pool and when weather permits, meals are often served under the trees.

What’s Palm River Hotel really like?

Stretched out in the gardens are five 3-floor buildings which house the 73 rooms. Palm River does a great job of allocating families and couples accordingly, so this really is somewhere that works for everyone. Most of the rooms are deluxe rooms (2 of these are wheelchair accessible) and each has a little balcony with a couple of seats and a table, and there’s an ensuite bathroom. Palm River also has a handful of suites- 2 honeymoon suites with huge windows looking towards the river and an outdoor rain shower, and 3 executive suites, each with a lounge. The largest is the Presidential Suite, which has both indoor and outdoor lounges. Lastly there is one private villa (Palm River Villa) that includes a deluxe room, a honeymoon suite and an executive suite, with a private lounge and swimming pool.  This can be taken as a whole or booked as individual rooms, but it’s worth being aware that the Palm River has pretty extensive grounds so this is around 150m from the main hotel.

What can I do at Palm River Hotel?

Palm River’s peaceful location on the Zambezi is only a 10 minute drive from town, and they’re happy to run shuttles in and out of town (just chat with reception about this) if you want to head in and explore.  There are also boat cruises available on the lovely Ra Ikane, which leaves from the end of the garden, tours of the falls, helicopter flips, rafting and a whole host of other activities the lodge can help you arrange locally.

Giving back at Palm River Hotel:

When the lodge was built much of the indigenous tree and plant life was protected, power comes from both hydro and solar power, and they have their own water purification system. Where possible waste goes for recycling in Victoria Falls, and they have their own veggie garden. They also support the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching unit, and on the first Friday of the month staff take part in a community clean up.
