Chinzombo: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Zambia>South Luangwa>Chinzombo

Chic, stylish Chinzombo is one of Zambia’s most luxurious safari camps, ideal for those who want the authenticity of a Zambian safari without compromising too much on comfort.

What’s Chinzombo really like?

Chinzombo’s six canvas and reed villas are a dramatic break with the ultra-rustic styles found elsewhere in the South Luangwa. They’re chic and contemporary in style, with a range of spa treatments in the room (total bliss after a long flight) and individual plunge pools in every villa. There’s eco air-conditioning over the bed, and an ensuite bathroom with a tub that looks nearly large enough to float a baby hippo in. Heading over the main area of camp, you’ll find a large deck built around the trees, a comfy seating area and a shady dining room, though meals are often served in the open air. Food is excellent and fresh, and after trading safari tales around the fire earlier in the evening, guests will usually sit at individual tables for dinner.

What can I do at Chinzombo?

The owners of Chinzombo have been established in the South Luangwa for decades. Their guides are amongst the best in the Luangwa Valley, meaning that morning and afternoon game drives are often fascinating. Chinzombo’s location is close to the main entrance gate of the park, so you do tend to see a few other vehicles on game drives, however this is one of the most game-rich areas of the park making for some spectacular wildlife sightings. Walking safaris are also possible (guests need to be over 12 for this) and boating safaris can be arranged during the green season, which is usually mid-January- early April.  Please note that typically you will take a short boat ride across the river to begin your game drives.
