What’s Nosy Manga really like?
Set in the quiet neighbourhood of Ivato, just a short drive from the airport, Nosy Manga Hotel is a relaxed and reasonably priced place to bookend a Madagascan adventure. We’ll admit that whilst it’s not terribly attractive from the outside, once inside the hotel has a small and personal feel, with leafy gardens, a calm courtyard and a sense of being tucked away from the bustle of the city. One of the best spaces is the rooftop pool terrace, where guests gather for a cool-off dip, sunset drinks or a quiet dinner with views over the neighbourhood. There is also a small lounge area, a bar for a quiet drink before dinner and a garden terrace where guests often sit with a book or a coffee.
Rooms – a mix of modest queen rooms, king rooms, terrace rooms that have outdoor seating and family suites – are simple and comfortable with rosewood furniture and clean white bedding. We’d say it’s worth requesting a room at the back as they are further away from the road and tend to be quieter. Throughout there’s air‑conditioning, Wi‑Fi, en suite bathrooms, televisions, safes and minibars but it’s worth bearing in mind there aren’t any mozzy nets and you need to pay for water. Décor is simple but funky with fun art dotted around. Some rooms open onto the garden, while others are set around the courtyard. The ground floor restaurant is good and serves a mix of Malagasy and international dishes, with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The buffet breakfast is definitely a win here (and they’ll even do you a takeaway coffee) but should you want to venture out for other meals the neighbourhood eateries are only a short walk away.
Nosy Manga Hotel is welcoming to families, with spacious rooms and a relaxed, easy going atmosphere. The gardens give children a little space to stretch their legs, and the staff are helpful with early meals or simple requests.
What can I do at Nosy Manga?
While most guests use the hotel as a basic but convenient overnight stop, it is possible to arrange short excursions into Antananarivo, including visits to the Rova of Antananarivo, the craft markets of La Digue, or a half‑day trip to Lemur Park on the outskirts of the city.
