Le Relais des Plateaux is a 4* hotel a short drive from Tana’s international airport. We’d never sell it as an ultra luxury option, but we like it as a characterful, peaceful and a pleasant spot for an overnight stay for guests who don’t want to battle with the traffic into and out of the city.
What’s Relais des Plateaux really like?
If traffic goes well (and we all know in Tana it may well not), Relais des Plateaux is maybe 20 minutes away from town. As a result, we might not use it as a base for a long stay, but it’s a sweet place to be nonetheless.
The 46 rooms are scattered amongst several low rise buildings (3 floors at most). The entry level rooms are Classic Double or Twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms, wooden beds, and tiled floors. They are functional, but perfectly comfortable. Superior rooms are a little larger and have a small sitting area, and the Lux rooms are larger still. There is a bar, a restaurant where we enjoyed a fun and well-cooked lunch, and an outdoor heated pool.
Relais des Plateaux also has a small gym. As non-expert gym goers we counted around 5 machines and concluded while this probably wasn’t ideal for Olympic athletes, it was a nice option for a bit of exercise after all the wonderful Malagasy food.
In all, while we would stress this is a not an ultra high-end option, it is nevertheless a friendly and practical option for guests who need to be near to the airport after a late-arriving or before an early-departing flight.
