South Africa is an absolutely blissful spot for a honeymoon. You have scrumptious food and wine around the Cape, ravishing scenery and, of course, the once-in-a-lifetime adventure of safari. What’s particularly brilliant is that it is such a varied country that we can really find the things that work best for you.
Plus, when you have so much to do in the run-up to your wedding, we can take care of all of the boring, hassley bits of organizing your honeymoon so you can concentrate on the fun parts and having an amazing time.
Romantic South African Honeymoons:
Being on your honeymoon is just magical- leaving all of the bustle (and dare we say… wedmin) behind and actually spending some proper time together. South Africa however just adds the extra magic. The friendly and fun lodge owners and managers really want to spoil you- be it with surprise dinners on safari, bottles of bubbles where you would least expect to find them and baths full of rose petals (sounds a bit clichéd, but it’s surprisingly lovely after a long day out and about!). For something extra special, some safari camps can arrange starbeds or treehouse sleepouts for you both too. Plus, we are very good at snuffling out honeymoon discounts on your behalf. Just tell us what you’d like, and what you don’t and we can point you in the right direction.
Adventurous South African Honeymoons:
Whilst there are some brilliant places to take it easy, South Africa is a brilliant honeymoon choice if you are active, outdoorsy people- we know the feeling! Walking safaris are a particular favourite of our team (combined with a more traditional vehicle-based safari), there are some excellent hiking and mountain biking options and if you are riders we have some great spots up our sleeves. If you’re feeling really brave there’s always shark-cage diving too- rather you than us!
Adding on a honeymoon beach stop:
Our honeymooners often ask to finish their trip with some time on a beach. South Africa has a gorgeous Indian Ocean coastline (the Atlantic side can be a bit chilly!)- with a handful of really romantic luxury hotels and wild and rugged barefoot hideaways. If you want something a bit more tropical and don’t mind travelling further, the luxury hotels in Mauritius are utterly fantastic. There are also a number of exclusive private-island hideaways up in Mozambique that we can recommend- just give us a call and we will help find the right option for you.
Our South African Honeymoon tips:
Consider doing something quite relaxing at the start of your honeymoon. From personal experience, weddings are incredible but exhausting and by the time you’ve made it down to South Africa you will probably be in need of a good break. For example, a few days taking it easy in the Winelands before hitting Cape Town is a great way to be ready to make the most of the city.
Save the safari till last. For almost all of our travelers to South Africa, safari tends to be the absolute highlight of their trip and this will send you back to married life on a serious high.
Do what works for you. The beauty of our honeymoons is that they’re all customised to exactly what you want and not someone else’s standard package, so you can really make the most of this very special time.
