Christmas Family Holidays In Africa

Our top tip? Try to book Christmas family holidays well in advance. It’s an exceptionally popular time of year, so getting on the case early gives you the most choice and the best prices for your big adventure.

South Africa’s Cape is utterly glorious during the Christmas holidays. Cape Town’s glamorous beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay are the places to see and be seen at this time of year.  There are several private villas that you can take over as a family, driving yourselves around is extremely easy and the two hour time difference means you won’t have to contend with jet lag. Plus, if you want your safari fix, the malaria-free game reserves of the Eastern Cape are just a short hop away.

Heading up to East Africa, both Kenya and Tanzania are utterly glorious at this time of year. Weather should be wonderfully warm, the Indian Ocean waters are clear, and in Tanzania at least the wildebeest migration’s finally returning to the lush grasses of the Serengeti.  While South Africa is perfect for children of any age, Kenya and Tanzania are really best suited to slightly older children. Kenya in particular has some fantastic family-friendly places to stay, including some private houses that a family can take over- perfect if you like  your safari to operate at your own pace!
