Who can go gorilla trekking?
Trekkers need to be over fifteen years old, and generally you’ll need to be reasonably physically fit. Your hiking group will move at a steady, upbeat pace, in order to ensure that you have enough time to find the gorillas, spend time with them, and return to base before dark. If you fall behind the group, a porter will usually remain with you, or you can return to the ranger post. If you think you will struggle carrying your bag, you can hire a porter at the ranger post to help you- this is a brilliant way to help support the local community.
It’s essential for the safety of the gorillas that you do not trek if you feel ill or have a cold– if you tell the park wardens, there is a very good chance that your permit will be refunded. If you do not tell them and your guide detects that you’re ill, you will be sent back without refund.
