Sossusvlei Desert Lodge: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Namibia>The Namib Desert>Sossuvlei Desert Lodge

Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is one of the most comfortable lodges to visit the dunes at Sossusvlei from, and is an excellent treat if you want to be well looked after and thoroughly spoilt in ravishing surroundings.

What’s Sossusvlei Desert Lodge really like?

Gloriously comfortable. The main lodge, containing the bar, lounge and dining room sits in the heart of camp, with a verandah outside and a pool down below. Either side of the lodge are the ten gorgeous stone and glass suites, with desperately romantic indoor and outdoor showers, and everything carefully designed to take advantage of the ravishing views- from the small outside plunge pool to the skylights above the bed, so you can stargaze without moving an inch.

What can I do at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge?

Activities from Sossusvlei Desert Lodge include nature drives on the reserve (remarkably, there’s a little wildlife even in this desert area, but these really focus on the environment as a whole) , breakfast trips out to Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei and Sesriem Canyon, nature walks, hiking trails, quad bike trips, and visits to San rock paintings. For an extra fee it is also possible to arrange hot air ballooning over the sand dunes. We’d also like to make a special mention of the observatory and the astronomer here- the night skies throughout Namibia are breathtaking, so it’s wonderful to come here and really be able to make the most of them!

Giving back at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge:

&Beyond, the owners of Sossusvlei Desert Lodge have committed in ways big and small to protecting Namibia’s fragile environment. Invasive species have been removed and made into “logs” to burn in the lodge fires, the “green team” clear litter at Sossusvlei, and the lodge funds conservation education for Namibian children as well as funding school fees and food for the children of the nearby Maltahohe community.
