Extraordinary Africa>Zimbabwe>Hwange
A short flight from Victoria Falls is Hwange, once the hunting grounds for royalty, and today Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve. Hwange sits on ancient migration routes, and while there are no natural watercourses in the park, a vast network of waterholes provides for spectacular game viewing, especially towards the end of the long dry season. Here, lions lurk waiting for unwary plains game to approach, and mighty herds of elephants trundle across the open plains. Elsewhere the pans give way to teak forests, mopane woodland and in the scenic north of the park beautiful granite hills.
