Hemingways is a medium sized luxury hotel in Nairobi’s upmarket Karen suburb.
What’s Hemingways Nairobi really like?
There are 45 luxury suites here, all large and comfortable, and decorated in an attractive light and airy plantation style. Deluxe suites are on the ground floor, while Executive suites, slightly more expensive, are on the next floor up, so have slightly better views and high vaulted ceilings. We’d be delighted to stay in either of them ourselves and the Karen Blixen and Hemingway Suites are both magnificent. Rooms come with all of the facilities that you’d expect from this calibre of 5* boutique hotel- flat screen TVs, air-conditioning, and wifi access.
Hemingways also has a decent restaurant and a bar. Surprisingly for a city hotel, there’re pretty extensive grounds outside, as well as a pool, and a rather lovely spa. In all, we think that for those who have the time to spend longer in Nairobi, this would be a very pleasant spot for a day or two in town.
What can I do at Hemingways Nairobi?
While many of our guests don’t stay for much longer than a night in Nairobi, Hemingways does work well for those who wish to visit the ever-popular elephant orphanage and the nearby giraffe sanctuary. If you’re coming towards the end of your trip, there is also some great shopping to be done- EA favourites include Kitengela Glass, Matbronze, Kazuri Beads and Utamaduni. If you’ve gone wild and exceeded your baggage allowance for light aircraft flights, don’t worry- we can store excess for you to pick up before your departure flight. Lastly, if you book in advance, we can arrange a cooking class for you, learning how to make local Kenyan cuisine.
