What to do and Where to Stay in Kidepo

Extraordinary Africa>Uganda>Kidepo

Tucked away in the furthest reaches of North-Eastern Uganda, Kidepo is a vast savannah ringed by distant mountains. It’s certainly one of the most out of the way, but rewarding, options for safari in Uganda. Once you’ve made long journey up to Kidepo, you’re a world away from the lush rainforests of Bwindi. Kidepo is semi-arid so water is scarce, making your great game viewing an easy goal to pursue. Wildlife’s concentrated around the river valleys- head out on game drives to spot lions, ellies, giraffe and buffalo, or take a walking safari to immerse yourself in the sounds and smells of the bush. In particular, while you’re on safari in Kidepo keep your eyes peeled for ostrich- this one of the only places in Uganda where you can spot them in the wild.

Though taking a safari is the main attraction in Kidepo, the surrounding area is home to the Karamojong- a traditional pastoral people who love cattle as much as the Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania, and if you visit to a Karamojong village you’ll get to see this first hand- just let us know if you want to include this in your itinerary.
