The Hotel Moringa in Tulear is named after the false baobab growing outside on the street corner. It’s a low rise, villa style hotel, covered in tumbling bougainvillea.
What’s Hotel Moringa really like?
Inside, there’s a huge carved wooden staircase running up through several floors to the roof high above, which gives it an almost cathedral like feel. There are 24 rooms, peacefully decorated with cream walls and natural wood, all air conditioned and with a little balcony or terrace to sit and relax. There’s one family room and a suite with a separate sitting area. Beds are almost floating wooden beds, fixed as double or twin rooms, so please let us know in advance what your preferred configuration is so we can make sure it’s available. You’re in the heart of town here, so very light sleepers may wish to bring ear plugs- there’s by no means all night discos going on, but towns in Madagascar wake early and you’re very much immersed in real life here, so best to be prepared!
Downstairs there’s a small, unpretentious bar and restaurant with a tv on the wall, serving tacos, wraps and pizzas- we enjoyed our lunch and the terrace is a really lovely spot to sit and watch the world go by. In all we’d say this is comfortable and a great mid-level option for the night.
