Narina is a hugely romantic feeling lodge set in a private concession of the Kruger National Park.
What’s Lion Sands Narina really like?
Narina has just 9 beautiful cottage style private suites, which have a modern, natural and very open style of décor. They look towards the Sabie River, and each has so many of the thoughtful touches we love to see in a safari lodge. Beds face towards the river to maximise your view, and the lovely large bath sits right beside the window. There are indoor and outdoor showers (we love the latter for a feel of serious romance) and outside on the deck each suite has a plunge pool.
The large thatched main lodge sits in the middle of the rooms, and also looks out over the river. The décor is modern, yet draws effortlessly from the surrounding nature, giving an overall very peaceful feel. There’s a big deck where you’ll eat meals when the weather is good (don’t worry, there’s plenty of space indoors and a crackling fireplace for when it’s not) and a boma for starlit dinners.
What can I do at Lion Sands Narina?
In such a spectacular part of the world for wildlife viewing, game drives are a definite priority at Lion Sands Narina. You’ll normally head out in open game drive vehicles for around 3 hours in the morning and late afternoons, and the beauty of being in such a private area is that you see few other vehicles.
It’s also possible do a bush walk after your morning game drive- while you (deliberately) don’t get as close to the big animals as you do in a vehicle, it’s a great way to learn about the smaller sights and sounds of the bush up close. (Please note for safety reasons you need to be over 16 for this). If you travel during the rainy season and the weather doesn’t favour a game drive, you may also find the guides and trackers use the time to give nature talks instead.
And if all of this activity sounds too much? Well- Narina can arrange a lovely selection of spa treatments which are a blissful way to relax after a long flight or a bumpy game drive. Another extra that feels madly romantic is a sleepout in the Tinyeleti Treehouse- please do let us know if you are interested in this as it is a highlight for many!
Giving back at Lion Sands Narina:
If you would like to take a community tour during your stay, this can be booked as an optional extra and proceeds go to development projects. Narina also works with Pack for a Purpose helping to support several local projects so if you have space in your luggage and would like to help, please let us know.
