Kicheche Fly Camp is an adventurous, close‑to‑nature walking safari experience in the Mara conservancies, perfect for travellers who want to slow down, leave vehicles behind and immerse themselves in the wilderness in a way that feels deeply authentic.
What’s Kicheche Fly Camp really like?
Set in remote corners of the Mara North and Olare Motorogi Conservancies, Kicheche Fly Camp is a lightweight, mobile camp used exclusively on Kicheche’s multi‑day Walking Wilderness Safaris. The camp is pitched in wild, wildlife‑rich areas far from the busier parts of the Mara, giving you the rare privilege of experiencing the landscape on foot with expert guides and armed rangers. The atmosphere is peaceful and unhurried, with wide skies, birdsong at dawn and lantern light flickering through camp in the evenings.
You’ll sleep in dome tents, each with comfortable mattresses, proper bedding, bedside tables and a canvas flysheet. There are simple bathroom facilities with long drop loos and safari showers. Meals are hearty and prepared over an open fire by your Maasai host: freshly baked bread, hearty stews, salads and cooked breakfasts. Water is provided too. Guests eat together under the stars or in a shaded mess tent, and the sense of camaraderie is one of the great joys of the experience.
Kicheche Fly Camp is suitable for kids age 12 and over but we’d say they’d also need a genuine interest in walking and wildlife. Your overnight luggage is carried separately (you just need a small backpack for the day) and walking routes are tailored to the group’s fitness and curiosity, and the guiding team is excellent at making the experience engaging, educational and safe.
Giving back at Kicheche Fly Camp:
Kicheche is strongly committed to conservation and community partnerships. The fly camp operates with an extremely light footprint, using minimal infrastructure, solar lighting and strict leave‑no‑trace principles. The conservancies themselves are community‑owned, meaning guest stays directly support local livelihoods, anti‑poaching efforts and habitat protection. Kicheche also contributes to the Kicheche Community Trust, funding education, healthcare and conservation projects across the Mara.
