Extraordinary Africa>Tanzania>Serengeti>Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge
Kuria Hills is a well built, luxurious tented lodge in the beautiful northern Serengeti. It’s a real contrast to some of the more bush-style mobile camps, making it an ideal choice if you’d like a little bit of spoiling alongside your safari.
What’s Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge really like?
Kuria’s designers have done a fantastic job of blending the comforts of a lodge with the styling of a camp- there’s a large contemporary feeling lounge tent with a cosy fireplace, and a dining tent that’s almost like a restaurant. In keeping with the more hotel-like feel, guests tend to eat individually here, rather than at a communal table. Outside there’s a sandy fire pit, and off to one side, the swimming pool. Kuria Hills has 15 large and beautiful glass fronted suites scattered along the hillside. Although the rooms do have partially canvas walls, this is really like a rather lovely hotel suite, complete with a freestanding tub in the bathroom, a sitting area, and a plunge pool on the deck. 5 of the rooms can be used as a family room, where the sitting area has a sofa bed and a spare camp bed for children.
What can I do at Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge?
Being in the heart of the Serengeti, the main activity at Kuria Hills is game driving in the surrounding bush. In general, our guests will either fly in and do shared game drives in the camp vehicle, or drive in with a private vehicle and guide. A private vehicle is also available on a fly-in basis for an extra fee and should be booked in advance. The other, rather lovely extra that you can book from Kuria Hills is an early morning hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti, followed by a champagne breakfast. This is an especially wonderful thing to do during migration season as it gives you a real sense of the huge size of the herds. For keen migration spotters, Kuria Hills is around a 30 minute game drive from the Mara River. If you are travelling on a family safari, Kuria Hills has a fantastic selection of activities for younger children. Lastly, if you would like to spoil yourself a little, there is a small spa here where you can have a massage.
Giving back at Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge:
Lemala, the owners of Kuria Hills, have sustainability at the forefront, aiming to lead the way removing plastic bottles from the national park, removing their own single use water bottles, and plastic straws. Lunch boxes are biodegradable and plastic free, and all waste is removed from the park. They also help to support a wide range of social projects, including a women’s empowerment group (they make the lunch boxes), donating to a woman’s shelter, and helping provide sanitary pads to girls to help them stop missing school each month.
