Extraordinary Africa>Zambia>South Luangwa>Nsefu
Nsefu was Zambia’s very first safari camp, built on the finest site in the Luangwa Valley. Today, it has the same fabulous location in what’s now known as the Nsefu sector. Views from the camp are just marvellous, looking out over the meander of the Luangwa, a pod of hippos in the river below and vultures floating on the thermals overhead.
What’s Nsefu really like?
This is an historic property, and the six rondavels do have a simple, traditional feel- they date from a time when safari meant a heart-stopping soul-satisfying adventure, not an airconditioned tent and a parade of the Big Five queuing up to be photographed. Rooms look out over the water and there’s always something to watch from the main mess- be it kingfishers dipping in and out of the river or ellies coming for a quiet drink.
What can I do at Nsefu?
Early each morning you’ll wake up for a quick breakfast (often porridge cooked in the embers of the fire), before bundling into your vehicle for a game drive, or setting out on an early morning walking safari. Drives happen at dawn and dusk, while walks are gentle ambles for a few hours, stopping for tea along the way.
