Extraordinary Africa>Namibia>Swakopmund>Swakopmund Guesthouse
Stopping in Swakop is pretty inevitable for anyone travelling the route between Etosha and Sossusvlei, and there are a number of guesthouses and B&Bs in this area. It’s rare to find the cosy intimacy or rustic-luxe that you’ll find in a safari lodge, but these B&Bs are often a welcome respite from the wilderness, and it’s nice to be able to head out into town to try the restaurants.
What’s Swakopmund Guesthouse really like?
Swakopmund Guesthouse has a great location within walking distance from the sea front and the town centre, though as with all African towns, we’d normally recommend getting a ride or driving after dark. There are 16 rooms, a mixture of luxury and standard rooms- the main difference being the size, though neither of them are vast. Fittingly, décor has a beach house theme, with lots of pictures of the sea, pebbles and drift-wood style light fittings. The overall feel is light and bright. Most of the rooms are in the main building, but it’s worth being aware that four of them are a stone’s throw away across the road. A buffet style breakfast (often with delicious bread) is served each morning, and there are staff on hand during normal working hours to help you with any queries you might have.
