Lovely La Cotte is a charming collection of cottages and a small hotel on one of the oldest farms in the Franschhoek Valley.
What’s La Cotte really like?
Guests stay in one of several houses scattered around the grounds. Everything has a charming, low-rise Cape Dutch design, with pretty little cottages and charming interiors. The main Manor House has been converted into a boutique hotel for adults only, with Mountain Rooms, Pool Rooms which are fractionally more expensive and look out over the pool, and the two-bedroomed Pool House. Stylish though the main hotel is, we particularly love the individual cottages in the grounds for a little more privacy. There are 1,2 and 3-bedroomed Orchard Cottages, each of which have their own plunge pool. Views from here are gorgeous, though if we’re honest, this is the case for most of La Cotte!
There are also Forest Cottages, slightly simpler, but also lovely. They were built with self-catering in mind so, unlike the Orchard Cottages, all come with full kitchens. These mainly have two bedrooms (the mezzanine cottages have the second bedroom, unsurprisingly, on a mezzanine level) and between them the Forest Cottages have a shared pool. There is one slight exception which is the sunset cottage that has its own small plunge pool. Lastly there’s the private villa which you can book out in its entirety (3 ensuite rooms and a big room with 4 single beds) along with the lake cottage (two further rooms) for big groups.
In the main hotel there’s a restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch, though to be honest, with so much fine dining on hand in the village you may well find yourself eating out a lot- we’ll send you a restaurant list of some of our tried and tested favourites. The main part of the village is walking distance away. Well, perhaps before your wine tasting and a good lunch- afterwards a taxi back up might be more in order!
