Lodo Springs, Laikipia: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Kenya>Laikipia>Lodo Springs

Lodo Springs is the latest, and most luxurious, camp built on the wonderful Loisaba Conservancy- a favourite of ours for many years.

What’s Lodo Springs really like?

We’ve called Lodo Springs a camp, but now we’re going to contradict ourselves, as this is really a world away from a traditional safari camp. The eight marquee-style rooms do have canvas roofs, but otherwise they have a pretty solid feel to them, with stylish décor, floor to ceiling windows, big decks and substantial ensuite bathrooms. The main areas have a similar feel to them- there are stretched canvas roofs, but you’d feel more like you are in a cosy sitting room- albeit one with jaw-dropping views. These views do come with some slightly steep walks in places, but we’d say it’s absolutely worth it! Outside, there is a gorgeous infinity pool for dips between game drives.

What can I do at Lodo Springs?

One of the things we love about staying in the conservancy areas is that away from the restrictions of the national parks, you have the freedom to enjoy so many different activities. Game drives on Loisaba are always wonderful- an afternoon spent here alone with a herd of elephants remains one of our best-ever safari experiences. It’s also one of the few places in Kenya where you have the chance to spot black rhino, having recently been introduced into the conservancy. The conservancy concept pioneers supporting communities as well as wildlife, so you’ll see herds of cattle alongside the wild animals, and as an optional extra you can visit a nearby Samburu village. Guests can also try camel riding and horse riding, and for an extra fee there is also the chance to do a walking safari (inclusions and exclusions do get quite complicated, so please check your itinerary so you know what’s in as part of your stay and what’s charged as extra!) Lastly, you can visit the camp’s sniffer dogs to see the amazing work they do to protect the wildlife.
