Extraordinary Africa>Kenya>Masai Mara>Serian Nkorombo
Serian Nkorombo is ideal for lovers of a more timeless, traditional sort of safari.
What’s Nkorombo really like?
It’s fair to say that communal dining, bucket showers and tents that are on the simpler end of “luxury” aren’t for everyone. But people who love Nkorombo, really, really love Nkorombo. There’s the sense of intimacy that comes with staying in one of just 5 tents in the camp, incredibly warm staff, the delight of meeting like minded souls over dinner and the utter luxury of having your own guide and vehicle to explore with at your own pace.
There’s a cosy lounge and mess area (in common with all Serian camps, there is no wi-fi here) where you can relax on the sofa, have a cold drink and enjoy jolly communal meals. We’d also really commend the magnificent barbeque, the size and shape of a full-sized hippo. Frustratingly it seems to be too large to steal and smuggle home… Tents aren’t huge. They’re semi-mobile “Selous” style tents with iron beds, canvas chairs and an ensuite bathroom with flushing loos and safari showers. This certainly isn’t a cheap camp, but we’d really recommend it for people who want to pay for atmosphere and experience rather than mainstream luxury.
What can I do at Nkorombo?
The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s finest game viewing areas, and Nkorombo makes the most of a spectacular location. The public Mara Reserve can be busy with other vehicles, especially during migration season, but Nkorombo provides a private vehicle to each group of guests so you can explore and get away from the crowds. And should you wish to see a crossing, Nkorombo is extremely well located for catching one during the season (roughly late July-October).
