Olmara Camp, Serengeti: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Tanzania>Serengeti>Olmara Camp

Lovely Olmara Camp is a charming tented camp with real heart, set in the lovely Eastern Serengeti.

What’s Olmara really like?

The main mess area is a pretty, marquee style tent with a sitting area at one end and the dining room at the other. There’s flashes of jolly, bright African style fabrics throughout, and meals are usual served at individual dining tables. For our travellers who like to stay in touch with the outside world, you can usually pick up wifi here. Just in front of the mess is the “bush tv”- a campfire for evening drinks.

The 8 tents are ranged either side of the main area.  These are all marquee style with stretch canvas roofs, large comfortable beds and an ensuite bathroom with shower and flushing loo. Two of the tents are family tents which share a bathroom.  Three of Olmara’s tents are set up as Stargazer Tents. These have an outside platform where a bed is set up under the stars, a very special experience indeed!

What can I do at Olmara?

Typically our guests will either stay here on a full board basis, arriving with one of our vehicles and guides to conduct private game dries, or fly in on a “game package” basis and use the camp’s vehicles for shared game drives with other guests. This part of the Serengeti is just lovely, we’ve always enjoyed how pretty it is and it’s especially good for big cat sightings.  In addition to game drives, it’s possible to do walking safaris with Olmara’s guides. For obvious reasons, you don’t get as close to the big cats on foot as you do in a vehicle, but it’s a wonderful way to explore the sights, sounds and smells of the bush up close.  Often people will just enjoy a shorter walk as part of their game drives, but if you’re feeling especially adventurous, you can combine walking with a night of fly camping under the stars.
