Katambuga House: The Lowdown

Extraordinary Africa>Tanzania>Arusha>Katambuga House

Katambuga House is a small lodge on the edge of Arusha Town. It’s a 10 minute drive from Arusha Airport which makes it a convenient stop off for anyone on a flying safari. If you have an afternoon to kill, the gardens are pretty with a lovely pool and views of Mount Meru.

What’s Katambuga House really like?

This is built very much in the classic rural style of this area- a low rise bungalow with a tin roof, tiled floors and lots of wooden furniture. Décor is in simple, natural tones and there are just 8 rooms in total so the whole lodge has a very intimate feel to it. 4 rooms are in the main house, and 4 in the cottages outside. They have double or twin beds, big windows to let in the light, and ensuite bathrooms (with loo and shower).

Over in the main house there’s a cosy, homely feel with a fire lit in the lounge area and a verandah to sit with a cup of coffee or an evening drink. Fresh and delicious breakfasts are served in the dining room, and there are set menu dinners in the evening. Mostly our guests come here for a peaceful start or finish to safari rather than doing anything too action-packed. Though it is possible to arrange a coffee tour and there is some lovely birding in the gardens.
