Extraordinary Africa>Tanzania>Zanzibar and Stone Town>The Neela Boutique Hotel
The Neela Boutique Hotel has made a rather different addition to the Stone Town Hotel scene. While many of the other boutique hotels have leaned heavily towards the classic Omani style with plenty of bright colours and ornate fabrics, the Neela is elegant and contemporary.
What’s The Neela really like?
It’s tucked into the maze of winding streets of the Old Town in a beautifully restored historic building. There are 14 rooms in total, all pretty spacious. The 11 Deluxe Rooms have King Sized or Twin beds and a bathroom with walk in shower. The 3 Superior Rooms are firmly aimed at couples with King-sized beds only and a standalone bathtub in the room. The rooms are amongst the most stylish we’ve seen in Stone Town, but we would mention to any fellow awkward Brits that the bathrooms aren’t fully separate rooms from the bedrooms, so you do need to be travelling with someone you’re good friends with! Rooms have satellite TV, air-conditioning and pretty reasonable WIFI. There’s a lovely rooftop bar which is an ideal spot for sundowner cocktails, and a restaurant serving a range of interesting dishes in a fresh modern style that we’re used to in the hip restaurants of Cape Town, but is something of a new development for Zanzibar!
