Ndhovu Safari Lodge is something to a throwback to the earlier days of safari, when welcomes were warm, nature was all and air-conditioning belonged firmly in town. If you want an excellent value lodge, with great hosting, and aren’t too fussed about sleeping somewhere fairly simple, Ndhovu is ideal.
What’s Ndhovu Safari Lodge really like?
There are ten, basic stand-up safari tents, with reed and thatch bathrooms to the rear. At the front, the verandahs look out towards the river, and one, the “River Tent” actually sits on a floating pontoon over the river. And while none of the tents compare the ultra-luxury offerings elsewhere, there’s something very special about hearing hippos singing during your afternoon snooze.
There’s a large main “lapa” where main meals are eaten (food is plentiful and wholesome, rather than gourmet), and there’s a bar for a cold beer at the end of a day on the river.
What can I do at Ndhovu Safari Lodge?
Activities that you can book from Ndhovu include boat trips on the river – we love these for being so utterly tranquil- apart from the odd yawning hippo showing off just how big his tusks are! You can also book onto game drives to nearby Mahango Game reserve and Caprivi National Park (a bit further away).
